Sofia is facing a severe housing problem, which manifests in three ways. First, the building activity lack effective and enforced guidance, which leads to chaotic informal self-constructions. Second, the infrastructure of the house is inadequate, which causes service failure. Third, self-construction of homes and infrastructure result in the shortage of public space and poor condition of existing shared spaces, which are rarely seen in Sophia.
This project addressed these issues through a proposed smart growth housing strategy.
